HOW DOES IT WORK
Walls, brick in particular, are usually porous and will let in water within hours so a property’s entire perimeter has to be protected if floodwater is to be prevented from entering.
Flodef’s system successfully does this up to 1m deep on a normal building wall. We believe our approach is unique.
Each property is surveyed and a total solution agreed with the customer and checked with our Engineering Consultants. All work is undertaken by our own installation teams.
We first seal the property from foundations up to ground level and where required install non-return valves on soil and vent pipes and seal around service entry points etc. Some properties are affected by rising ground water and in such cases suitable sumps and pumps are installed with suitable control gear.
We then install a flexible membrane underground in a duct around the perimeter of a property. When a flood threatens the membrane is pulled up in sections into supports located on the property walls and air seals at the sides of each section are inflated.
Once all sections are pulled up and inflated the system forms a complete seal all around the property, preventing flood water from entering. The property walls hold back the weight of any floodwater up to 1m deep and the Flodef membrane prevents it from entering the property.
N.B. Some properties can withstand a greater depth of water and walls can be strengthened, this is identified within the property survey. The system can also incorporate an automatic alarm that can alert a number of people to an impending flood.
If ground conditions around your property might lead to water coming through your floors, Flodef’s surveyor will draw it to your attention when reporting on the initial survey, suggest possible means by which rising water can be dealt with and advise you of the additional cost of protection.
