Flodef- Flood Protection Solutions - Effective Protection against flooding - title

PLANNING

Flodef’s solutions have a minimal visual impact on your building, and have been accepted on several listed buildings.

On most buildings planning is not required as Flodef’s is a permanent solution, temporarily deployed in times of flood.  The impact on your environment is minimal as Flodef’s solutions minimise the volume of floodwater displaced.  Flodef protects only your building, so your protection takes up very little of the flood plain and has the smallest possible impact on others; in contrast civil defences which often involve knock-on impacts on the environment or on other groups of properties.

As far as possible Flodef uses recycled materials; the ducts housing Flodef’s membranes are built from recycled specialist plastics.

Flodef’s costs are usually only a fraction of the cost of typical civil defences; because they are nevertheless comprehensive they are acceptable to central and local government and fulfill current Environment Agency cost / benefit criteria.

PLANNING CONSENT ON FLOOD PLAIN DEVELOPMENT

Currently many authorities will require special arrangements to be considered under PPG25 if an application for development on a flood plain is likely to be successful.

There are special cases where development on flood plains can be approved and these will require a flood risk assessment and for the development to make provision for adequate flood resistance and resilience.  Flodef Limited can provide advice to developers and the professional services required.  The Flodef ‘New Build’ System can provide the necessary flood resistance required under PPG25 and as it minimises displacement of the flood plain it can fit within the requirement to limit the knock-on event of development on flood plains.

For the Developer and House Builder it can make a significant difference to the saleability of the end development and can also add to the saleable floor area as the ground floor can be useable space rather than utility areas which can be sacrificed in the event of flood.

More information on planning applications will be available after the issue of further Planning Guidance.
